After the success of the inaugural Red Devils in the Community event prior to the first team’s Easter home match last year, the club are delighted to announce the details of this year’s spectacle.
Taking place from 2pm at multiple venues across Salford and Trafford prior to the club’s Super League clash with current champions Leeds Rhinos, the club’s Foundation will be hosting 5 festivals of rugby for age groups from u7 to u11s at local community clubs.
Over the past 12 months the Foundation has been busy using the resources and impetus injected in to local rugby league through the Sky Try initiative to drive up participation in primary schools and high schools across Salford, Manchester, Trafford and Bury. The event on Saturday 9th April is the latest, biggest celebration of all the hard work going on to grow the game locally.
Sites featured are the The Salford Stadium, Cadishead Rhinos and Wellacre Academy. They will play host to a festival of rugby before all participants and their families are invited on to help make the ‘big, games bigger’ by attending the main match kicking off at 6 30pm. All young players and their community clubs will be introduced to the crowd via a half time lap of honour and given a goody bag as a token of our appreciation.
The Foundation’s Mark Brocklehurst added how “after the success of last year, when we engaged 1500 people on the one day, we are looking to go even further this year. Sky Try has given our already successful programme an even bigger boost and what better match to showcase local talent than one with the reigning champions”
In addition to the rugby league, we will also be welcoming dancers from the Red Devils Dance Academy to perform as part of the match day entertainment. Over 100 local children regularly attend sessions and this event will be their chance to shine on the big stage.
