Salford Red Devils can confirm that their final home game of the regular Betfred Super League season against Leigh Centurions has been re-arranged.
Originally scheduled for Sunday 23rd July, the Round 23 game will now take place at LSV on Friday 21st July with an 8pm kick-off.
This follows Salford Red Devils reaching the last four of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup following their victory over Wakefield Trinity last Thursday and discussions between Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont and his Salford counterpart Marwan Koukash.
Salford, bidding to reach Wembley for the first time since 1969 and win the Challenge Cup for the first time since 1938, are in semi-final action over the following weekend. They will play Wigan Warriors at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington on Sunday 30th July.
Mr Beaumont said: “I was delighted for Marwan and the Salford club when they qualified for the Semi-Final of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. It is a massive occasion for him. Naturally he wants to give himself the best chance of making it to Wembley and to that end asked if I would mind bringing forward our fixture.
“Obviously, whilst wanting to assist, it is important it is not detrimental to our Club which it isn’t as we play on the Friday the previous week and it will also give us a longer break going into the 8s and may be useful to give the lads some time off before the 8s.
“We have played most of our games on Friday nights this season and the atmosphere has been good so hopefully it won’t affect the attendance and the Salford faithful will still travel.
“We need an attendance of 5,900 to reach an RFL benchmark of an average of 6,500 for the regular season which has a financial benefit to the Club next year, so bring your friends to enjoy some top class Rugby League!”
Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash said: “I am extremely grateful to Derek and the Leigh Centurions club for agreeing to move the fixture, which will be really helpful to my club with Wigan also playing on the Friday night.
“I look forward to visiting Leigh Sports Village where I am always made to feel very welcome and I hope the Leythers will be Salford fans for the day when we play Wigan.”
Any tickets already purchased displaying the original date are still valid and will be honoured.
